Is this a singles club?

No. This club is for all adults, single or married, who want to meet like-minded individuals for adventure and fun.

Can my children join or participate in events?

You must be 21 to be a member of the club and 18 to attend an event as a guest. Liability for events prohibits children from participating. Consider club events an opportunity to do something nice for yourself away from the kids.

Are there mandatory events or minimum levels of participation?

No, you can sign up for as many or few events as your budget and time permits. There are no required events. No one will force you to jump out of a plane but we might tell you what a great time we had doing it!

Who coordinates the events?

The members. Members are encouraged to become event coordinators and offer outings that are of interest to themselves and others. Want to go rafting or backpacking? You can plan and post the event on the web site. The event chair, board members and experienced club members can assist you in getting started.

Can I attend an event as a guest before I make a decision about joining?

Yes. It’s a great way to get acquainted with us. Unless the event is restricted due to space limitation, you may participate as a guest to meet and greet club members. We frequently have “Adventure Dining” which is a great introduction. Be aware that for events over $25, a guest up charge in addition to the event cost is required. Because you are not yet a member, you won’t be able to sign up for events directly on the web site. Please call or email the event coordinator whose number/email is listed under the event and let them know you are a potential member and would like to sign up for an event.

Do I pay the club for individual events?

Usually, event fees are paid to the event coordinator and sometimes directly to the vendor. Each event listing will provide specific instructions on cost, deposits and where to send payment.

What are my membership dues used for?

Membership fees are used for general club administration including hosting of the web site, postage, advertisement, office supplies, and awards. The club also helps underwrite the cost for our annual club picnic and our awards meeting.

When are club meetings held?

The motto of the adventure club is “Our events are our meetings!” We don’t have regular club meetings, but the board of directors does meet 4-6 times per year to oversee finances, plan events and handle other business. Members are welcome to attend board meetings which are posted in the club calendar. The club holds it annual meeting and awards ceremony every February to coincide with the Special Olympics Polar Plunge in Virginia Beach.

Do I have to be a daredevil to join the club?

No, we feature adventures from mild to wild. If museum tours and whale watching excursions are your style, you’ll find plenty to do in the club. If skydiving, class V whitewater rating, or race car driving are more your speed, you’ll find plenty of action as well. The Adventure Club is a great place to challenge yourself and try new things. You’ll be surprised to find yourself doing things you never thought you could.
